Phoebe Grainer wins esteemed Dreaming Award

Sweatshop Creative Producer, Phoebe Grainer, has won the 2023 Dreaming Award.


The Dreaming Award is part of the Australia Council’s First Nations Arts and Culture Awards, which are held each year on May 27, marking the anniversary of the 1967 referendum and the start of National Reconciliation Week.


Phoebe has been an inspiration to thousands of young people from First Nations backgrounds across Australia. She has co-edited critically acclaimed anthologies such as Racism: Stories on Fear, Hate & Bigotry and Blacklight: Ten Years of First Nations Storytelling. She has published highly original and experimental short stories and poems and has produced, directed and starred in some of Australia’s most cutting-edge theatre, film and television productions.


Phoebe’s accolade will enable her to develop her exciting new play, Pearl Ada Elsie, in partnership with Sweatshop and Darlinghurst Theatre Company.
