SBS Voices & Sweatshop release ground-breaking Pasifika series
Straight Up Islander is the first-ever online anthology series developed entirely by members of the Pasifika-Australian community. The collection reflects the ancestral and colonial histories, nuances, intersections and short-comings of the term ‘Pacific Islander’ — recognising the personal, political and geographical relationships between contemporary Pasifika communities and so-called Australia.
The collection was curated by Tongan-Australian writer, editor and arts worker, Winnie Dunn, and features the work of Seini Taumoepeau, Tommy Misa, Varuna Naicker, Professor Jioji Ravulo, Anne-Marie Te Whiu, Christine Afoa, Kaiya Aboagye, Dr Léuli Eshrāghi, Sela Atiola and Jay Tama.
Published by SBS Voices in partnership with Sweatshop Literacy Movement. You can read the entire collection now.
