Luisa Mitchell
Luisa Mitchell is a Broome-born author with Whadjuk Nyungar and European heritage, working as an arts producer and writer in Boorloo/Perth. Her prose has been published in print and online, including Westerly, Fremantle Press’ Kimberley Stories (2012), Portside Review, Liquid Amber Press, Under the Paving Stones, The Beach (2022) and Into the Wetlands. In 2023 she won the Highly Commended Poet and Best Emerging Poet awards from Liquid Amber Press for her poem ‘Salty Plum’. Her writing portfolio includes poetry, short stories and screenplays that explore themes of love, magic, connection to Country, dystopian futurism, family trauma, colonisation, politics, and the funny side of dark situations. She was the recipient of the ASAL/CA Writers Fellowship in 2023, using the opportunity to share #deadly Blak book reviews and publishing a short speculative fiction story ‘Purple Bruise’ in JASAL. Luisa is passionate about uplifting and empowering other First Nations storytellers and runs a First Nations Write Night group for mob at Centre for Stories, alongside Ballardong editor Casey Mulder.
