Maryam Azam

Maryam Azam is a Pakistani-Australian writer and teacher from Western Sydney. She graduated with Honours in creative writing from Western Sydney University and holds a diploma in the Islamic Sciences. Maryam's debut poetry collection, The Hijab Files (Giramondo, 2018), was shortlisted for the Mary Gilmore Award and the Anne Elder Award. Her writing has been featured in a number of anthologies across multiple publishers such as UQP, Seizure, Ethos Books and Recent Work Press. Maryam is currently working on her debut work of fiction, which has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
